What items are required for my graduate application? Are GRE scores required?
GRE scores are NOT currently required for UNI graduate programs. All applicants are required to submit official transcripts from their bachelor’s degree. Applicants who have earned additional degrees or taken coursework beyond their bachelor’s will need to submit official transcripts from those institutions as well.

Additional items such as resumes, personal statements, or letters of recommendation (LoR) will vary depending on the graduate program you are applying to. Please consult the program website for specific materials they require, or reach out to gradcollege@uni.edu for assistance.

I’m currently working on my bachelor’s degree, and my official transcripts will not be complete until after I apply for graduate school. How do I submit transcripts with my application?
  • Step 1: Incomplete Transcripts. You will need to submit your incomplete transcripts to allow the graduate program to review your application material. You can either request your institution send official copies of your incomplete transcripts to UNI Admissions, or you can send your own copy of your incomplete transcripts to admissionsprocessing@uni.edu and they will be uploaded as ‘unofficial’. Please include your name and CATID in the subject line.
  • Step 2: Official, Final Transcripts. Once you complete your undergraduate degree, you will need to request your official, final transcripts from your institution. This needs to be completed as soon as possible. Transcripts are only considered official if they are sent directly from your institution to UNI Admissions (admissionsprocessing@uni.edu). Your To-Do List item for ‘Final Univ Transc w/Degree’ will remain pending until your final official transcripts are received. You will not be declared in your major and therefore, not eligible to enroll in courses nor to get your Financial Aid paid until these are on file with UNI Admissions.
If I’m a current (or former) student at UNI, do I need to submit transcripts with my application?
No, current and former UNI students do not need to submit or request transcripts.
  • If you are currently enrolled in undergraduate courses, the UNI Office of Admissions will upload your current grade report as unofficial transcripts (see above).
  • After you have completed your undergraduate degree or if you are a former student, the UNI Office of Admissions will upload your final official transcripts.
Do you offer graduate application fee waivers?
Current or former UNI students do not have to pay the graduate application fee, and it will be waived automatically after their application is submitted. Any other prospective students should refer to this form to review whether they meet the eligibility requirements to request an application fee waiver.
What should I include in my personal statement?
If your graduate program requires a personal statement, then you should see some additional guidance when you reach the ‘Application Attachments’ screen on the application portal. Otherwise, you can reach out to the graduate program coordinator or gradcollege@uni.edu for further assistance.
Do I need to wait until I have all my documents and materials available before submitting an application for admission?
No, once you complete the questions, you can submit your application without uploading all documents. You can log back into your application after it has been submitted and still upload any remaining items like your resume or personal statement.

If letters of recommendation are required, you will enter contact information for references in the application, and they will be sent a prompt with instructions.

I haven’t heard back from my letter writer and the application deadline is approaching, can I request a letter of recommendation from someone else?
You can log back into your application and advance to the screen where you entered contact info for your letter writers. You can use the ‘Cancel Request’ button to clear out their information and enter a new contact to request a letter from. You will see the status updated to ‘Complete’ once their letter has been submitted to UNI Admissions.
What are the tuition & fees for graduate studies at UNI?
For on-campus graduate programs, refer to the Tuition and Fees page. International graduate students can refer to this listing for tuition & fees.
For any online graduate programs offered through Online & Distance Education, refer to this cost breakdown.
