1. Minutes from November 10, 2005
Rajendran indicated the date should be changed from November 1 to November 10. Moore moved to accept the minutes as amended. Motion was seconded and passed.
2. Announcements from the Chair of the Council
MacLin reminded members of the reception for Walker after the meeting.
3. Graduate College Reports
Koch’s report included the following:
-She and Joslyn will attend the Council of Graduate Schools Annual Meeting next week.
-Distribution of a copy of an article from the Council of Graduate Schools October 2005 newsletter entitled, “Considerations in the Decision to Apply for Graduate Studies: A Case Study”.
-Distribution of a draft of her introduction of the December 2005 commencement speaker, graduate student Vanitha Sugumaran.
-A meeting with Bill Calhoun, Vice-President for Marketing & Advancement, has been scheduled to discuss how the UNI Foundation can be more responsive to the needs of Graduate Education.
-The first edition of UNIVERSITAS will be published next week. This online journal provides a forum for showcasing UNI graduate faculty and student achievements in research, scholarship, and creative activity.
-UNI has assisted the graduate students from New Orleans as needed; however, academic fallout is still possible.
Joslyn announced the following Graduate Student Awards for 2006 and thanked the selection committee members for their service.

3rd place: Julia Moeller, Science Education/Physics Education emphasis
Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation
Dr. Susan Pecinovsky, Curriculum & Instruction

Lucas Pingel, English
Outstanding Master’s Research Paper
1st place: Greg Keller, Geography
2nd place: Nicole Otto, TESOL/Applied Linguistics
4. Chair of the Graduate Faculty Report
Wallingford reported on the third Brown Bag Seminar that was held yesterday. Dr. Helen Harton, Psychology professor, will be a presenter in the spring. He is still searching for a presenter from the College of Education.
5. Subcommittee Reports
6. Information: Graduate Education Strategic Planning
MacLin distributed the current draft of the Mission, Goals and Objectives for Graduate Education at UNI. Any comments about the document may be directed to MacLin. Two more meetings will be held in December to discuss strategic planning.
7. Other Business
Dr. Ira Simet, Associate Professor of Chemistry, was present to provide information on the Presidential Search and Screen Committee. Simet and Dr. Dan Power, Professor of Management, have been invited to be the UNI faculty representatives on the committee. The Board of Regents will be asked to ratify the committee membership at their December meeting.
Simet and Power have been asked by Regent Gartner to select an Advisory Committee in order to ensure that every constituency at the University will be able to provide input into the selection process. This committee will be comprised of 10 to 20 University faculty and staff.
Simet and Power welcome input from committee members regarding the search.
