Gabriela Olivares serves as the Associate Dean of the Graduate College at the University of Northern Iowa. She helps leading staff and faculty to create student success initiatives, advances inclusion and equity, and fosters students’ participation among campus-wide initiatives.
Dr. Olivares also serves as Research Integrity Officer for Research and Innovation. She works to create an environment where faculty seek external support for mission-related scholarship and outreach.
Education
- PhD in Applied Linguistics with an ESL endorsement. Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.
- MA in Spanish Linguistics. Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.
- BA in English Secondary Teaching. Catholic University of Chile.
Professional Accomplishments
- Dr. Olivares is a tenured associate professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures. Her research interests include second/foreign language acquisition and methodology, individual differences, working memory and the use of technology-enhanced language learning tools among traditional and non-traditional students.
- She is an active scholar and presents her research at national and international conferences.
- Dr. Olivares has received several awards, such as The Veridian Community Engagement Award (Iowa) and is a current member of the Iowa Academy of Education.
