The University of Northern Iowa School of Music is regarded as one of the finest music programs in the Midwest and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Students in this program continue to develop their own comprehensive knowledge of music through study of music theory, history, and analysis within the Graduate Music Core. Our graduate program offers exceptional faculty, innovative programs, and state-of-the-art facilities at an affordable price. Our graduates are offered hands-on opportunities for professional and personal musical growth, and they are well prepared for fulfilling careers in the music industry.

The MM in Composition provides exceptional graduate-level training in composition, with a focus on individual applied study with our expert faculty. Graduate students have outstanding opportunities for having works performed in solo and ensemble settings.

The MM in Performance provides exceptional graduate-level training in Instrumental or Vocal performance in solo and ensemble settings. Our graduate students are well prepared for entrance into doctoral programs, are frequently accepted into prestigious summer festivals and young artist programs, and enjoy successful careers as performers and educators.

The MM in Piano Performance and Pedagogy provides exceptional graduate-level training in performance, along with extensive training in piano pedagogy for teaching students at all levels. Students receive hands-on teaching experience through internships during their graduate programs.
